2型糖尿病のある方を対象に、カテキンを含む緑茶エキスを12週間摂取してもらったランダム化比較試験では、プラセボ群と比較して、緑茶エキスを摂取した群で中心血圧の増大指数(AIx, central augmentation index)が低下したと報告されています[7]。増大指数は動脈の硬さを反映する指標の一つとされ、この研究では緑茶エキスが標準治療の補助として動脈の硬さの改善に役立つ可能性があると述べられています。
